It is a reenactment based on an actual trial of Joseph Brodsky that took place in 1964.  Then 24-year-old poet and translator at the start of his career was accused by Soviet authorities of crimes against the state and found guilty of "social parasitism."  In the trial, Brodsky repeatedly says, "I did work.  I wrote poems."  With the intent to show its relevance at the present time, the performance presents a modified version of the original trial script:  Michael R. Katz's English translation of a smuggled copy of court transcript by Frida Vigdorova, a journalist who was present at the trial.  All the roles are played by non-actors—artists and cultural producers.
