Do Undo (2025)

mixed-media installation

wood, paper, electric motors, motor controllers, hardware, cables, LED lights and strings

Consisting of a set of two wooden structures with embedded electric motors and lights, Do Undo explores the notion of habituation and its implications for our attitude over time—becoming desensitized not only to bad things but also to good things in response to recurring social and emotional patterns that surround us. Through the movement, sound and shadows seen and heard, the work draws attention to those moments of different dynamics and nuances that might otherwise go unnoticed. While multiple strings repeatedly go up and down at different speeds and intervals, echoing the repetitions observed in daily life, the behaviour of those strings are never the same. As each structure undergoes numerous 20 minute cycles, two structures come together through coinciding moments of stillness and silence.

This project was made possible with the support of Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst.
