Carriers (2011)
social interaction project
Carriers is a project that Hee-Seung Choi initiated with the aim of exploring possibilities of creating interactions among women of different cultural backgrounds come together and interact outside their own cultural communities. It also intends to provide an opportunity for participants to see themselves from different perspectives as they are put in a new setting; and to suggest ways of connecting to one another. It was conceived after Girls with Monitors (2010), an experimental theater piece the artist created featuring Islamic school girls. Carriers took a form of a workshop, and ten participants with nine different origins were formed based on four common ground. Final documentation of the project was made mainly by drawing as majority of the women did not feel comfortable having their faces exposed.
